About Big Picture Peoria
Big Picture Initiative is a passion project of a dedicated group of volunteers who believe that art can change the world–starting with our community. We have charted a course to create and facilitate more public art, showcase creatives in our community, and give children the opportunity to enjoy making art. Our vision for the future means that Peoria is home to visual artists, performers, musicians, and all creatives who flourish in the vibrant atmosphere of a community filled with art. From our inception in 2018 to present day, we work collaboratively to improve the lives of in our city through the arts. In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, we expanded our scope to include literary arts and founded Giving Voice, a digital magazine written and created by students.
About the Artist
Jeremy Berkley is an East Peoria based artist and Bradley University alumni, with a focus on illustration, graphic design, printmaking and murals. His art pulls from pop culture references and utilizes a thoughtful color palette that will instantly inspire nostalgia. Berkley creates art that is attainable for everyone— inspired by his new home and the desire to put art on the walls, he found screen prints to be reasonably priced and that they did not sacrifice quality or the artist’s personal touch. Berkley, utilize his illustration background, and began screen printing in his East Peoria home. The often playful nature and pop culture references create this approachability in Berkley’s art that allow it to be appreciated by the art community due to the attention to detail and craftsmanship, but also those new to art.
Berkley is a frequent contributor to Gallery 1988, the world’s #1 pop culture gallery, based in Los Angeles, California. Throughout the years he has participated in multiple nationwide print exchange shows and featured internationally in Japan.
In his free time he loves to consume popular culture, comics books, comedy, professional wrestling, running, and hunting down his favorite fashions online. He can regularly be found supporting local artist in Peoria on First Fridays.
Find Yourself, 2021
The Peoria icons represent the diversity of local attractions. Working from Peoria’s rich history, current offerings, and a look to Peoria’s bright future, I was able to pull from the city’s eclectic spirit to illustrate these eye catching graphics. My wish for you is to explore what these icons have to offer you and the community. With so many possibilities it’s easy to find yourself here for a day, a weekend, or a lifetime.
